In this course, participants will be introduced to Catharine’s working methods and develop a deeper understanding of frit and powder work. beginning with glass sketches and simple black & white pictures and ending up with complex images composed of several layers and numerous firings.

Materials used will be glass sheets, powder and frit. Participants will, during the course of this study, develop warm-working techniques along with a deep insight into composition, lines, perspective, planning strategies, and colour usage. Catharine will allow each participant room for development through the works produced during this course.

Topics covered include:
Facing the “blank canvas” – getting started
Realism, abstraction and points in between
Space and perspective
Line, shading, and contrast
Opacity and transparency
Concepts and usage of color
Concepts of composition, and design
Planning strategies

Participants will complete several projects using the above mentioned techniques.
