The glass paperweight is the first step for anyone interested in working with hot glass. This introductory class guides the first time glass artist through the most crucial skills. First you will gather glass from the furnace, learn to shape and control, and how to apply color to the glass. In a fun and informative manner our instructors will introduce you to tools, safety and basic glass theory. Every student will leave with a gorgeous paperweight and a strong foundation for future exploration. No experience necessary. All materials included.

Come on in and get a taste of the ancient art of glassblowing. This sampler class is the best way to enjoy the excitement of playing with the melted glass while making your very own souvenir (paperweight). Experience gathering glass from the furnace, controlling and shaping it. Our experienced teacher will help you to make an object for you to exhibit as your keep sake. No experience necessary. In this 12-week program, teens will focus on building their skills and understanding of hot glass. This is a great course for a teen that is a first time student. In the first quarter, Oatka’s instructor, Justin McKenney, will drill the basic skills of gathering, blowing, and tool handling. Second quarter they will concentrate their skills on making a set of matching drinking glass. In the final quarter students will be given the chance to move into the sculptural world, beginning with a variety of decorative bit techniques on larger vessels. A series of group projects will occur through out the 12 weeks. From there we will see where their imagination takes them.

This two day introduction to glass blowing will guide the first time student and students looking to brush-up on their skills, through the fundamentals of creating glass from the furnace, vocabulary, tools, and safety. You will start with Oatka’s core exercises: the paperweight. Then the class will be introduced to the blown bubble through a series of demos and hands on exercises. You will then apply the color and blowing techniques learned to create your own colorful drinking glass. No experience necessary. All materials included.

Enjoy a glassblowing demonstration with your entire family. Come in and make fused glass pendants for only $10 more per person. OR you can arrange to make a different fused glass project (bowl, plate, window hanging, tealight holders, etc.). Prices for these projects are listed in the Drop-in Project information.
