Workshop Details pdf: Introduction to Small Drop-Out Vessels

In this 3 day introductory workshop, students will get a quick overview of designing and creating kilnformed glass vessels. By initially working with pre-fired blanks, students will be able to start a slump on the first day to watch the process, test out the various kilns and have a sample piece for coldworking. This will enable the students to begin to understand the variables that affect slumping with gravity to create the “drop-out” style of a vessel form. Students will create a couple of blanks on the first day after a discussion and demonstration of the different processes that can be further experimented with in your own studios. Working with color in forming the vessels and designing pieces for using engraving techniques will also be covered.

Participants will go home with at least 2 small finished vessels and a blank to try at home.
